Skating skills 13.Twizzles.
I would describe twizzles as quick three-turns with continuing flow and no check between turns. Twizzles are a big part of the ice dancers routine, but single skaters must use twizzles in order to be eligible for the highest level 4 to be awarded in their step sequence.
Here is the list of exercises for twizzles:
1) FO, FI, BO and BI twizzles for 3 revolutions on each foot.
I find doing 3 revolutions (or more) in each twizzle is the most beneficial to establish good balance and flow. Arms and free foot position are optional.
2) More difficult free leg and arms position.
FO twizzle with free leg in forward attitude position and arms in 1 and 3 ballet position.
FI twizzle with free leg in backward attitude position and arms in 1 and 3 ballet position.
BO twizzle with free leg crossed in front and arms in back preparation and 3 ballet position.
BI twizzle with free leg crossed behind and arms in 4 jazz position.
3) Four twizzles combination
BO-FO-BO-FO twizzles with free foot crossed alternating in front and behind, and arm positions changing in each twizzle. Done on a circle clockwise and counterclockwise.
4) Forward and backward twizzles with power pull between.
Starting LFO twizzle followed by power pull into LFI twizzle, then RFI twizzle followed by power pull into RFO twizzle. Repeat on other foot.
