Skating skills 8. Three-turns.
Three-turn does not included in the list of difficult turns to achieve better levels on a footwork, but it is the most coming connecting turn in programs and in preparation for jumps.
Here is the list of exercises I have on my Youtube video:
Waltz threes
Great exercise in preparation of learning Waltz jump and Axel. It is extremely important to do transition from BO to FO edge without shifting your weight on your toe pick or leaning forward with your upper body.
Second half of Waltz three is similar to landing position, when free leg is extended and foot is turned out with pointed toes.
Forward inside three-turn
Variation with crossing free leg in front after a three-turn helps to check hips and shoulders and have more control while gliding backward.
Backward outside three-turn
I call this combination of backward outside three-turn and forward inside mohawk “Loop step”
This is a great preparation exercise for a Loop jump.
Backward inside double three-turns
This exercise is good for improving power, flow and extension.
Three-turn combination 1
This combination includes all three-turns in both directions. Deep edges and flow across the ice is the goal here.
Three-turn combination 2
All three-turns are included with power pull between. Continue to work on power and deep edges.
Three-turn combination 3
Consist of double three-turns and power pulls. Can be done with slow or quick tempo, forward or backward. The main idea is to skate on one foot the length of the ice to improve knee and ankle strength, and overall power.
