Skating skills 6. Crossover exercises.

We are finishing our crossover spree with a couple more helpful exercises.

  1. Forward and backward crossovers on a small circle.

I love this exercise, because it will get your body into correct position, or you won’t be able to do it at all. Tight circle makes you twist your upper body and bend your knees and ankles to the maximum. Do at least 5 crossovers, staying on each foot for a whole circle (or at least for a half to start)

  2. Forward crossovers with forward stroking and Port de Bras.

  3. Backward crossovers with two foot transitions and Port de Bras.

These two exercises include a great mix of basic skating with a touch of ballet creativity.

  4. Forward and backward crossovers with lunge and one foot glide.

This one is great for body work and balance.

  5. Forward crossover with FI three-turn.

  6. Backward crossover with three-step mohawk.

These two exercises could be used to connect elements in the program for both beginner and advanced skaters.

  7. Quick perimeter crossovers.

This exercise improves power, quickness, upper body twist, and knee - ankle bend.
