Skating skills 2. Port de Bras.
Welcome back! Let’s go over our next skating skills video. Today we are going to start with Port de Bras.
Port de Bras is a classical ballet term meaning “movement of the arms”. It can also include head and upper body movement. For example, when we bend our upper body at the hips forward and backward we called it forward and backward Port de Bras.
Our first exercise today will be forward and backward swizzles with deep (Grand) plie and Port de Bras. Focus on bending your knees and ankles and moving your arms through ballet positions.
Then we continue with second exercise, which is forward and backward lunges. For more difficult version we included forward and backward Port de Bras to it.
And the last exercise for today came straight from the ballet room. We will try to do battement fondu on the ice gliding forward and backward, using one arm each time and alternate as we move free leg forward, side and backward.
At first I recommend to work on your skating knee and ankle bend, extend your free leg and turn out and point your foot. You can just hold your arms stretched out to the side. When you have mastered battement fondu you can try to coordinate this exercise with arm and head movement.
All three exercises are great for improving coordination and balance, deep knee bend and extension. Remember to breathe!
